Film: The Drama [2026] – Zendaya, Robert Pattinson

The Drama is one of the best promoted films. The marketing gives away a romantic comedy vibe, while the film delivers a great dark comedy.

Starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, this is a tragicomedy of the human heart — tender at first, then quietly expanding into the fragile, funny and painful contradictions of being human.

From a love story to school shootings, The Drama has it all. Zendaya plays one of her most flawed characters perfectly, and Pattinson proves again that he’s a serious star.

However, while my opinion of The Drama is mostly positive, I think the conversations this film will foster might end up being less interesting than what the creators and director hope. This is a tense, beautifully acted relationship thriller that turns pre-wedding doubt into something far darker and more uncomfortable.

Let’s be honest, the film hides a commentary about American society, and how school shootings are “normal” now. However, while director Kristoffer Borgli holds up a mirror to a culture obsessed with performative virtue, the film barely scratches the surface of real societal problems, in a culture where the attention span is less than five minutes. So, what are we exactly doing here besides a well-acted and produced dark comedy?

Should You Watch It?

Much of the gossip surrounding the film directly relates to studio secrecy around the story, which led audiences to expect a frothy romcom rather than an uncomfortable and thought-provoking dark comedy.
