Young Sherlock – Season One [2026] on Prime Video

Young Sherlock is one of the freshest takes on Sherlock Holmes with a career defining performance from Hero Fiennes Tiffin.

Starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Holmes, and Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, the series takes a look at Holmes before he became the private investigator we all know. The series is a fun light comedy that shines thanks to its main actors, and part of its story.

While the show can be divided into two parts, the first “Oxford” part is just a very slow burn that feels like it’s going nowhere, until the halfway point where Sherlock discovers a main secret. Then, the season skyrockets into different locations and scenes that makes the show intriguing. Even when the scenes look cheap thanks to very obvious green screen work, the actors shine and make the show fun to watch.

Side note, Amazon MGM shows a recently are all plagued with that green screen cost cutting measure. Dear MGM, if you really want to do it, make the basic effort of making it believable.

However, if you know the main story of Sherlock, this series will feel a bit off for you. The man destined to be Sherlock’s greatest enemy is, at least for now, his biggest ally, and that’s the best decision this series makes. We all know Holmes’ foe, thanks to this show, we’re going to know why.

Should You Watch It?

Young Sherlock is not bad. However, this first season needed a bit more time in the production over before someone decided to produce it. Hopefully those things are addressed in the next one.
