The Punisher: One Last Kill mostly works despite some very obvious limitations. Too bad it’s not longer.
Everyone was surprised when The Punisher was part of Born-Again Season One. Even Jon Bernthal himself. Sadly, that consequential cameo resulted in this rushed “Special Presentation” that both helps and hurts the Marvel, and Punisher brands.
Thing is, with all my complaints, I’m not sure what we did to deserve this, but I’m glad we got it. The special pulls no punches when it comes to Frank Castle’s psyche, or action, but it leaves you wanting so much more.
Jon Bernthal is simply incredible as The Punisher. It feels like it was written for him. Well, he co-wrote this special. However, much of the 51 minutes presentation seems aimless, and that is intended. What is the point of life for a man who spent over a decade getting revenge for his family when there’s no more revenge to get?
I guess we’ll have to wait for the next Spider-Man film to know.
Should You Watch It?
While fun and puts Frank Castle back in focus, this special presentation feels like half a story film and a rushed story arc. It needs an extra hour.
Where Can I Watch It?
You can stream Marvel Television’s The Punisher: One Last Kill exclusively on Disney+ everywhere.
