Daredevil is back on our screens with a mismatch of two concepts. When it hits, it hits hard. Same when it fails.
Starring Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio and a lot of the original cast, Born Again picks up after Echo with our two favorite characters. Matt Murdock (Cox) finds himself on another collision course with Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio) as the latter runs for Mayor of New York.
Having watched the whole season (9 episodes), it’s clear that the teams behind the show had two different ideas. Without any spoilers, any viewer with a keen eye for movies and series would notice the shift in tones, visuals, and action sequences. The original concept made the show very Disney friendly, while the creative rework from last year takes the show back into the Netflix era direction of hard action and blood, thankfully. You might ask why? The original show got the connections to the MCU, while the creative “rework” is what got our favorites back! Foggy, Karen, Frank Castle, Pointdexter and others.
What’s both interesting and exhausting about Born Again is the way that, even though you can sense how drastically it changed during production, both of its creative teams produced compelling ideas for how to give Daredevil a second life in the MCU.
All in all, it’s a decent season for television with a lot of disjointed, but good, plots and visuals. Hopefully, the consistency makes the next season closer to perfection, as well as the announced Punisher special.
Should You Watch It?
Good but with clear inconsistencies. The difference between the original idea and the reshoots is obvious. If you’re a fan of the original run, you’ll prefer the reshoots. Hopefully season two is better.
Where Can I Watch It?
