FX’s Adults wants to grow up and into the kinds of shows it emulates; all while being born from the generation used to swiping right and hash tagging their feelings.
Starring a mostly unknown cast, this is a show that I was skeptical about, but it’s quite funny. If I want to summarize it, it’s a modern Gen Z version of FRIENDS.
This keen and contemporary series magnifies the awkward phase that is young adulthood. We’ve all been through it. Yes, some of us claim it never happened, others went through it before social media and phone cameras (thankfully!) but we’ve all been through it. And this show captures it almost perfectly.
While it may take a while to find capture its audience viewer’s attention, the show will teach you something about a new generation and make you fond of Paul Baker. All in all, it’s a quick binge, and frequently hilarious, if you can get past the existential haze and the gnawing feeling that everyone should take a shower and clean their goddamn house.
Definitely excited for the next season.
Should You Watch It?
A modern FRIENDS. Initially skeptical, Adults was a fun and easy watch, that surprisingly hides a lot of layers.
