Mortal Kombat II thankfully remembers its source material, and delivers a campy action movie that decently plays on nostalgia.
While the first film had almost no real Mortal Kombat, the second film delivers on the tournament promise, while taking a hint from Marvel’s comedy gags.
While Karl Urban was a great addition as Johnny Cage, I would have very much preferred if we skipped him and focused a bit more on the actual tournament. He felt more like a diversion to the film, while adding a “name” to the sequel.
However, everything you love about the game is here in this sequel; action, humor, the crazy characters, the gore and the blood. I actually applauded the fatalities, it’s so much fun, you can’t prepare yourself for this!
Even when I hated the overly campy and ridiculous scenes, It was very fun to watch. Yes, it is not a universal cup of tea, but its core target audience might be satisfied before returning to play the game.
It’s a goofy film based on a goofy game that know it doesn’t need to satisfy everyone. Fun, overall, and definitely not serious.
Should You Watch It?
Way more faithful to the source material. MK2 is a camp fest with lots of action that overstuffs too many references to different versions of the games.
Where Can I Watch It?
