Only Murders in the Building keeps the engine running in season four. This time, the murder hits home closer than ever.
After a stellar third season, Hulu’s Podcast influence comedy show is back with another murder, the only way it can: By going to Hollywood.
In this season, our favorite misfits are investigating the murder of our stunt Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch) while Hollywood is attempting to make a movie about them. Meta commentaries much? Meryl Streep is back as Martin Short‘s love interest, but we also got an amazing extended cast this time to push our universe even further: Zach Galifianakis playing himself playing Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), Eugene Levy playing himself playing Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), and Eva Longoria playing herself playing Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez).
In this fourth season, the cast gets more comfortable with every season, and the stories play better. This time, there’s a major influx of talent added to Only Murders in the Building. But the new and returning faces don’t outshine the stars. They shine, and play, right along with them. As always, the main fun is in the interaction of the three leads, which, Longoria’s suggestion about their age differences to the contrary, is never “creepy.”
However, as much as I loved this season, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the show may have peaked. And that’s not a bad thing. We’re already four seasons in, with a fifth on the way. It has been an unexpected and amazing run with great stories, great characters, and a super A-List cast.
Should You Watch It?
With its outsized characters, random asides and non-sequiturs, Only Murders in the Building remains an absolute delight. However, it might be time to think about an exit plan while things are going well.
Where Can I Watch It?
You can stream Only Murders in the Building exclusively on Hulu in USA and on Disney+ everywhere else.
