Steal is a solid mix of action, paranoia and mystery — not groundbreaking, but confidently executed and often genuinely gripping.
Starring Sophie Turner, Archie Madekwe, and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, the best thing about the series is seeing Turner demonstrating her acting talent beyond the limits of Westeros.
However, and don’t get me wrong, she’s good. But without Fortune-Lloyd, the show would have been super boring and predictable. Slow Horses minus the comedy. It’s very…British.
Essentially, this is a very bingeable show. It’s a heist thriller that has its moments until the suspense dribbles away from overlength and overcomplication. A Layer on top of a layer of “who did it”…. Well, not everything needs to be an onion getting peeled.
The first episode climaxes with a delicious and well-concealed twist, and the surprises keep coming throughout all six episodes. The twist in the final episode is especially fun, until you get to the final 5 minutes. Unfortunately for the story, all the buildups, and there are a lot of good ones, lead to an uneventful climax and forgettable ending. The concept for this is intriguing… it’s just a shame the execution couldn’t have been that way, too.
Would you really forgive someone who drags you into being the scapegoat in a heist? Risk your life to make him some cash? Within 5 minutes? I sure wouldn’t!
