Film: The Fabulous Four [2024] – Susan Sarandon, Bette Midler, Megan Mullally

The Fabulous Four is honestly what I see my friends and I doing when I’m 60. Midler being me! Loved it!

Starring the fabulous quatro Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally, and Sheryl Lee Ralph, this is a comedy about BFFs, female needs, objectives, perspectives and aging.

However, it’s not all rosy. When it comes to movies about older women, Hollywood still can’t seem to get the recipe just right. In that regard, I guess it’s progress that at least half of this one is done well. All that talent deserves a much better script. The movie doesn’t give the fabulous stars quite the vehicle their talents deserve. But we’re happy to see them gathered together, knowing the fab four could run circles around the premise if given half a chance.

All in all, this movie is a well-honed fairy floss. A very pleasant film that begs the question: why doesn’t Midler do more comedy? From the evidence here she’s lost none of her comic spark. Let’s face it, if you love seeing divas do their thing on the big screen, it’s definitely worth an afternoon matinée to find out.

Should You Watch It?

Not every movie needs to be serious, or take itself seriously. And this is one of those movies where you need to suspend your belief, and enjoy it for what It is. A feel good movie about older women not giving a fuck.
