Slow Horses – Season Three [2023] on Apple TV+

Slow Horses - Season Three [2023] on Apple TV+

Slow Horses gets really good, and really dysfunctional with season three. Funny and suspenseful, packed with even more thrilling action.

After a tumultuous second season, our favorite band of british misfits is back again. This fantastic spy series just gets better and better. Almost unrecognizable, Gary Oldman is definitely the main draw here, but Jack Lowden continues to be a deft scene-stealer. And that’s saying something.

On its third season, Slow Horses proves that Apple TV+ might have the best content no one is watching. It opens with an extended prologue shot in Istanbul with a boat, car, and foot chase; and the climactic showdown is filled with thrilling action sequences set in multiple locations… They actually addressed one of my main concerns from previous seasons.

The plot is genius, but simple. An inhouse conspiracy theory that threatens the life of one of our horses. Lamb goes on his saracstic offence. He doesn’t want to show that he cares, but he also goes far and beyond to defend and save his people. Might sound lame, and already done, but definitely not in this way. What makes this show work, aside from the great acting, brilliant characters, and intense storylines, is how efficient the series is. Each season has six episodes, but every episode counts. There is no filler. No bloat.

And yes, three seasons in, I really enjoy this spy thriller the same way Lamb gets a kick out of making everyone around him squirm. It’s delightful. Everyone’s a fuckup here (with zero willingness to change), and that’s what makes them so appealing.

Next, season four!

The characters are there, the plot is complex and believable, and this third season, watchable as a stand-alone, is positively delicious. Yum, yum. Give me more.
