Arcane: League of Legends – Season One [2021] on Netflix

Arcane wasn’t on my watchlist until a friend really recommended it. Looking back, he was one hunder percent correct.

Arcane manages not only to transcend the video game adaptation curse (Hello Borderlands and every other adaptation!), but with it’s bold visual style, endlessly complex characters, engaging story and unique world, this show has easily become required viewing for any fantasy or TV fan.

As someone who has never played the game, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I got was amazing. Mature and well-plotted storytelling, interesting and multi-layered characters and stunning animation meant that even though I had no interest in League of Legends, I had a great time watching. Frankly, Marvel Animation and Disney should learn some lessons from this one.

This season is nine episodes, broken into three parts, or three mini-stories. In all honesty, the first part was…pretty meh. But the show picks up at the end of episode 4 and skyrockets by the sixth episode. It took me a while to watch the whole season (life!) and I can’t wait to jump straight into the next story.

Should you watch it?

The animation is beyond special. Say yes to Arcane. I never spent a minute of my life playing League of Legends. I’ll spend many minutes and hours watching season two of Arcane.

Where can I watch it?
