With its mostly new cast, season three of The White Lotus tries a new approach at the murder thriller. Mostly good with some memorable scenes.
To be honest, Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola) saved this season for me. Yes, Parker Posey‘s Victoria might be the highlight for some, but if you take a step back, her character is there for the memes, not to affect the story in any shape.
Hovewever, Chelsea and Lochlan are the heart of this story. As viewers, we connect with them from the beginning. Yes, incest aside, Lochlan is every teenager out there, and Chelsea is the sweetest. Her story-arc this season is heartbreaking to be honest.
In addition, if you miss Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge), you’ll feel her presence, and affect, with Belinda. At first, I was happy she was back. Rothwell is a great actress, and her character was used as a punching back in the first season. Yet, she’s back on her own vacation, to relax and learn something new. Or that’s what we think.
All-in-all, I enjoyed watching this season. But couldn’t shake the feeling of “when will the actual and exciting story start”? Yes, we got some great and memorable scenes, but half of the episodes felt like tension grabbing fillers that went nowhere instead of anything meaningful. Remember the first two seasons? Everything matters. In season 3? Almost nothing matters, except the monkeys’ scenes.
Should you watch it?
Season three brings the best of the second, and the worst of the first seasons. Good, but the great scenes are far and detached.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream The White Lotus on HBO Max in USA and Crave in Canada.
