X-Men ’97 – Season Two [2026] on Disney Plus

X-Men ’97 season two manages the impossible. A near perfect follow-up to their inaugural season that takes what works and gives the fans everything they didn’t know they need.

Season two proves that our favorite Marvel Characters have a lot to give and show. And they’re complex characters that deserve the attention they were given in the past season, and the current one. Plus, season two proves that there’s more than one showrunner that can give them the attention they need.

While the past season relied on nostalgia, and fixing some core issues stemming from the previous show being on network tv, this season unshackles itself from all dependencies, and goes where no mutant project went: An actually good Age of Apocalypse storyline that isn’t dragged by side quests or makes its main villain…lazy.

Let’s be honest, Season two is a truncated view of Apocalypse. Somehow, the show manages to squeeze about 13 years of development and backstory for this character into the series, but it is actually well-structured and concise. Yes, everything is very complex. The comics are a mess. However, it’s explained perfectly, because even though the show has around twenty main characters running around, it develops and evolves them with care, each with their own personality.

Did you think the first season had many characters? Wait till you have X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, X-Corp….too many Xs. But none of them felt unnecessary.

Should You Watch It?

While it doesn’t have the shock value of the first season, this second showing proves that X-Men 97 has what it takes to take the MCU where it never went and be great at doing it.
