Watching Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die, I only had one question: Why? There’s no reason for this franchise to exist anymore.
Clearly a money grab, Ride or Die proves that it’s time to kill the Bad Boys franchise. What was once funny has evolved into a rehash of old tropes, mixed with forced storylines similar to the Fast movies mess. Just more of the same old same old.
Simply put it, Sony keeps messing up. They keep making the same mistake that ruins the Bad Boys: squander whatever is left from Smith and Lawrence’s chemistry by giving them subpar material. They might expertly bounce off each other, but these aging action heroes are not miracle workers. Dare I say, Smugness infects parts of their performances.
Don’t get me wrong. Bad Boys: Ride or Die contains a lot of fun action, and a sturdier plot compared to its predecessors. However, it is overwritten and overdirected to the point of being tiresome. I just felt worn out by it, not in a just-had-an-invigorating-workout kind of way, but in a just-got-groceries-the-day-before-Thanksgiving kind of way.
Should You Watch It?
Directors Adil & Bilall also put us right on the barrel of the gun with a few neat POV shots. Loved the first shooter gaming style scenes. But as a whole, the movie feels tiresome, chaotic and unsure of itself.
Where Can I Watch It?
