The Menendez Brothers takes sides. And that’s a good thing. However, we’ll never truly know what really happened in that fateful night.
Whether you agree on not on the real reasons behind Lyle and Eric killing their parents, you’ll enjoy watching this documentary by Alejandro Hartmann.
Unlike the other Netflix show, Monsters, Hartmann takes the brother’s side while also showcasing the other motive, money. Yes, both motives don’t get equal treatment, but at least, it’s deep enough to allow us, the viewers, to form our own opinion. Which is not something I can say about Monsters.
In fact, the documentary is not trying to preach, or trigger emotions. It clearly seeks to convey an event and provoke a critical conversation about the nature of the crime and the circumstances surrounding it. You can make your own verdict. However, you might want to collect evidence from beyond this partial production.
Aside from the documentary, and you can say as a direct result of it, the DA recently recommended a re-sentencing which might result in their release. Whether you think they killed their parents because of abuse, or because of money, it’s an intriguing story regardless of the reasons behind it.
Should you watch it?
This Netflix documentary came out at the right time to convey the one of the stories behind the brothers, in their own words. Regardless of my personal opinion, I do wish it went more in-depth about details of the case. It felt rushed and short when there’s so many details involved.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream The Menendez Brothers exclusively on Netflix everywhere.
