The Bear – Season Three [2024] on Hulu/Disney+

FX’s The Bear latest season is the same circus of agita and the beauty of human connection it has always been. As close to perfection as a third season of a series can be.

After a stellar first season, and a perfect second, The Bear remains one of TV’s best shows, teeming with superb performances and sharply observed moments of humanity. But once I watched all 10 episodes, I was left wanting more.

Season 3 affirms that in spite of all the anxiety-inducing moments in the kitchen, and outside, or the self-destructive tendencies of certain characters, this is a series with a deep well of empathy for its ensemble. Every single character is troubled somehow. Some realize it this season and decide to work on it. Others don’t. In both cases, we get to see a bit more about their background and how they ended up working at the restaurant.

Thankfully, The Bear makes its own kind of music in Season 3 and tries to redefine the drama. Episodes play like symphonies of images rather than conventional, plot-driven television. You get to live with the character and inside their minds. I wasn’t watching them interact as much as I was watching them live their life. But that’s not for everyone.

In fact, for the first time since the series debuted, I am not sure if the fourth part of the story will be a slam dunk, but I am still deeply impressed by the talent of everyone involved in this show.

Yes, the writers kept some plots open to interpretation, and they can use these to further the story and the exploration of human feelings and traumas, but this Inside Out for Adults is starting to reach the limits of its potential.

Should You Watch It?

By now you’ll have decided if you like the show, and I love it, greedily gobbling down every episode as if it were a sonnet on a plate. Pop on your napkin (cloth, paper, doesn’t matter) and enjoy.
