Movies
Quick movie, film, and documentary reviews from all around the world by and for the regular audience.
John Wick: Chapter 4 [2023] – Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård
John Wick: Chapter 4 is a thrilling and satisfying conclusion to the saga of the legendary assassin that started because of a puppy.
Boston Strangler [2023] – Keira Knightley, Carrie Coon, Chris Cooper
Boston Strangler was a pleasant surprise about how two journalists fought sexism to successfully investigate murders in Boston.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods [2023] – Zachary Levi, Lucy Liu, Helen Mirren
Shazam! Fury of the Gods doesn’t rise to the occasion. A mix of clichés and meta jokes saves it from being too bland.
Rosaline [2022] – Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Sean Teale
Rosaline is a fun and fresh take on Romeo and Juliet. Yes, the movie’s audience is not necessarily myself, but I seriously enjoyed it.
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile [2022] – Javier Bardem, Winslow Fegley, Shawn Mendes
A pleasant surprise, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile made me smile, a lot. It might be the perfect film to snuggle on the sofa.
Jerry and Marge Go Large [2022] – Bryan Cranston, Annette Bening
Jerry and Marge Go Large could have been even better by investing in its tremendously talented stars and outlandish fact-based story.
Cocaine Bear [2023] – Ray Liotta, Keri Russell, Margo Martindale
Cocaine Bear was surprising. Like a bear on cocaine, the move is crazy fun with some shocking scenes…in a clever way.
Magic Mike’s Last Dance [2023] – Salma Hayek, Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer
Magic Mike didn’t need his last dance. Warner Bros should have kept the franchise alone and not ruin it with this slow and cheap disaster.
Shotgun Wedding [2022] – Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel, Lenny Kravitz, Jennifer Coolidge
Shotgun Wedding has a good reason for putting Jennifer Coolidge at the center. She saved the movie from being a total disaster.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania [2023] – Paul Rudd, Jonathan Majors, Evangeline Lilly
Quantumania is the 31st movie from Marvel Studios. It certainly has a future thanks to a powerful performance by Jonathan Majors.
The People We Hate at the Wedding [2022] – Allison Janney, Ben Platt, Kristen Bell
The People We Hate at the Wedding is a movie that I was expecting to hate. Yet, somehow, I actually really enjoyed it!
News of the World [2021] – Tom Hanks, Helena Zengel
News of the World, while mildly entertaining, needed a bit more grit and less preaching.
80 for Brady [2023] – Rita Moreno, Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin
80 for Brady is a light comedy that wins thanks to its veteran leading ladies, their chemistry and charm. It’s a fitfully winsome watch.
