The Accountant 2 forgets that its premise of a criminal accountant, in favor of full-on action comedy. It’s fun, but not really a sequel.
Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal are back as the dysfunctional brothers in a sequel that gives us shootouts, but kind of forgets what made the first film stand out: the math guy actually doing math things in creative ways.
Honestly, I really had fun watching most of it. Felt like the first movie, with a John Wick vibe. However, we have to state the obvious. The tangled plot and a mysterious killer named Anaïs (Daniella Pineda) serve as flashy decoration, for an empty film that only exists to watch Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal go all-in as mismatched brothers.
Does any character arc make sense? Not compared to the first film, and definitely not in this one. Did I care much? Not until the end. Did I enjoy the action? Honestly, Bernthal was awesome in his almost-Punisher style, but Affleck felt like he was just there. His character lost all its essence in this forced sequel, sacrificed for the sake of the action.
Should You Watch It?
Plenty of fun action, but it’s missing that “X-Factor.” The changes to Christian feel unearned, more like Affleck just wanted extra lines. Overall, it’s definitely a weaker sequel.
Where Can I Watch It?
