I Am: Celine Dion is a raw, unfiltered, and honest look at Dion’s struggles with her health. Mentally and physically. Grab some tissues before you click play.
This documentary is smart in how it tackles its subject. It wisely avoids a career-spanning Wikipedia read of her life. Instead, we’re given powerful access to a deeply humanizing experience.
In fact, this Prime Video documentary is deeply uncomfortable. The film is unafraid to address themes of grief and regret. Directed by Irene Taylor, the film is more a celebration of the pop star’s spirit than her many professional achievements. An extraordinary look at the veteran diva, her career, and her struggles. It is a gut-wrenching account of a music superstar who became a shadow of her former self due to a neurological disorder. However, Taylor did something notable here. While it could’ve easily been indulgent, the documentary keeps things grounded, never losing sight of Dion’s SPS and the powerful instrument that is her voice.
Emotionally stripped bare, Dion introduces a rarely seen side of herself outside of the spotlight in this intimate portrait.
