Fallout, the series, on Prime Video might be one of the highest reviewed game adaptations on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, but I just don’t get it.
Starring Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and others, the Amazon Prime video series adapta the gaming franchise from Bethesda studios into a series. Back when it was released in April 2024, everyone freaked out. So, I had to check it. And as a non-gamer, I have to say, I don’t get it.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s an extremely well-produced show with stunning visuals, and actors that are clearly doing their best. In fact, the actors were all good, some were even great. In addition, the Wasteland looked more lived-in and authentic than many modern post-apocalyptic environments, but the characters felt hollow, and the narrative empty of any compelling hook, its arcs weak and listless.
Let’s go over one obvious example for anyone who watched the show. Even though the first four episodes play coy about “the secret”, it’s very obvious what’s going on. As a result, the twist in the final episode felt…..meh.
Believe me, I’m actually surprised to say this. The first season of Halo, even with its obvious limited budget, gives this show a run for its money. Even the second, and its clumsiness, was a bit more interesting. And I don’t say this lightly.
Should You Watch It?
Fallout offers sensory overload in the best meaning of the words. However, that’s it. I wanted a Fallout series that was clever and surprising, and gets me to buy the game. What I got was a Fallout series that’s good at finding new ways to display severed limbs.
Where Can I Watch It?
