Season two of The Diplomat starts with dealing with the explosive ending of its predecessor. Slow in the beginning, but that final twist is just perfect.
Season one of The Diplomat was a great and pleasant surprise. Season two shouldn’t have worked. Yes, the season starts great, grounds to a halt, then picks up faster than you can say “diplomat”. And that’s the result of a great team. Creator Debora Cahn and the cast elevated an already perfect show into one of the most memorable political dramas in recent years. Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell are so fun to watch together on screen. They’re even more comfortable this time around as the imperfect couple trying to wing it (sometime) into the VP seat.
However, it’s not always perfect. I was really getting tired of the show’s overcomplicated plot this season. Yes, we’re dealing with the fallout of the explosion, but the twists and turns made no sense until the arrival of the one and only Allison Janney. As VP Grace Penn, Janney is this season’s saving grace, because until her arrival things are too gloomy. She might even be the star of the third season. We’ll see. #NoSpoilers.
Should you watch it?
An incredibly engrossing six episodes, if you can look past the stale character development for Kate, the confused progress for other characters, and the uncritical faith in American diplomacy. LOL.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream The Diplomat exclusively on Netflix everywhere.
