Cult Massacre: One Day In Jonestown is a grim 3-part docuseries about the end of Jonestown and the cult started by Jim Jones.
This documentary offers profound and unsettling insight into the Jonestown tragedy, supported by poignant survivor interviews and chilling archival footage. You almost feel like you were watching live the insanity surrounding Jones and his fanatical fringe followers.
From an attempt to kill a senator, to killing him, all the way to the mass suicide, this three-part documentary series by director Marian Mohamed is a step-by-step recreation of the tragic final day in 1978 of the Peoples Temple.
Thankfully, Mohamed uses the wealth of footage that was filmed days before, during and after the massacre in Jonestown, Guyana, which left more than nine hundred dead, to construct a ticking-clock, real-time thriller that brings the tragedy to a whole new modern audience. There’s no room for interpretation here, which is an important thing in our modern day.
Should you watch it?
For those unfamiliar with the story, the docuseries doesn’t paint a big enough picture to be an introduction. You’ll need to do extra research if interested. On its own, it’s still amazing how much footage was captured at the time. The winner of the documentary is the use of archival footage, and interviews with the survivors.
Where can I watch it?
