The Agency is definitely a slow burner. Michael Fassbender shines as the conflicted agent trying to balance work with love.
Showtime and Paramount Plus really got the casting right. Boasting a lengthy list of A-listers, the show is impeccably controlled in its tone, meditative almost, but gripping as various plots are outlined that will obviously continue to be developed in the same fashion as The Bureau unfolded.
The Agency is an interesting premise with a solid cast that may be a bit too languid for its own good but still manages to be a pretty intriguing series. Reminded me a bit of Slow Horses with its intriguing events and pacing, minus the dark comedy.
Instead of Bureau sarcasm, you get the urgency of world events, secret bedroom adventures and-oh! -that Fassbender, with his firm mouth, noble profile and burning gaze. The only thing I’d change is the action scenes. Until the last episode, the show didn’t have a lot of peaks and valleys. If you’re not into british spy dramas, you might get bored. However, push through it, and the show will deliver a satisfying season finale with enough twists to hold you off till, hopefully, season two.
Should You Watch It?
Experiencing The Agency is like solving a puzzle in all the best ways. However, compared to solving a puzzle, the show offers intrigue, but it lacks energy.
Where Can I Watch It?
You can stream Showtime’s The Agency on Paramount+.
